Chapter 003 - Perhaps he wanted to be prepared after listening to her divination (3)
Looking at Chu Qianli’s short hair that looked like they had been chomped off by a dog, He Zhenghe, being careful with an adolescence girl’s sensitive heard, asked cautiously, “Do you like having short hair?”
Chu Qianli wasn’t bad looking but her hair was not pretty. They were cropped in a messy way and looked very messy.
He Zhenghe didn’t want to say that out loud. He could only broach the subject in a roundabout way and talk about her preference, trying to figure out what was on her mind.
Chu Qianli touched her hair reflexively and suddenly realized what he was talking about. She replied to him honestly, “Oh, no. I was responsible for sweeping before. Long hair gets in the way.
“But there are designated people to sweep at our house, right? Does that mean I can grow my hair out and not have to worry about hair falling on the floor?” Her eyes beamed when she thought about it. She would rather not have her hair look like it had been chomped down by dogs if her laziness did not win over her desire to be pretty.
She was too lazy to clean up after herself, but it was okay if someone else did it.
After hearing her very pragmatic reason for having short hair, He Zhenghe didn’t know what to make of it. He nodded and said, “That’s right, there will be people who’d sweep at home. And there is also someone who can cut your hair for you. It doesn’t matter whether you want to have long or short hair.”
Chu Qianli waved her shoulders back and forth and she seemed happy and prideful all of a sudden. He Zhenghe found that amusing.
He had worried that she was be timid and too intimidated to talk. Now he quite liked his daughter’s personality. She was relaxed the entire time and would occasionally let her childish side show.
He Zhenghe brought her affectionate toward the front door. “Alright, this will be your home from now on.”
Chu Qianli stepped inside of the yard with him and said casually, “Fengshui here is good.”
“Eh? You are familiar with that?”
“A little bit.” Chu Qianli added, “My grandfather is into it.”
He Zhenghe was taken aback a little and realized that the one that Chu Qianli referred to as Grandpa was He Shichen’s uncle. He was the one who raised her and words had it that he was the fengshui in the village. He had passed away a while ago.
Inside the house, Chu Qianli had just walked inside the door with He Zhenghe and was immediately faced with the very emotional Yu Shen.
Yu Shen, looking at her real daughter whom she had never met before, her motherly instinct toward her immediately overcame the distance between the two of them. Her eyes reddened immediately, tears filled her eyes, and she said with broken voice, “My child, you had suffered so…”
Chu Qianli was hugged by her mother immediately and was rocked back and forth like a stuffed animal. Her mother’s arms were so forceful that she almost couldn’t beath. She felt her clothes being wet by tears. Not being able to do anything else, she wrapped her arms around Yu Shen and said calmly, “Not really. It was neither great nor bad. Just plain.”
And she meant what she said. Life at the village wasn’t too awful.
The village that she grew up in was, after all, one that was listed in the advanced list. It was much better than many other villages in the country.
Yu Shen started bawling after she heard that. She had played out different scenarios of them meeting in her head many times but never expected her daughter to handle it better than she did.
After He Zhenghe had comforted Yu Shen, the two of them were about to introduce her to He Shichen. He Shichen, watching the reunited scene the entire time, only felt a chill through his entire body. He let none of that showed.
Yu Shen wiped away her tears and pulled He Shichen over to her. She looked over at Chu Qianli carefully and said to her softly, “Qianli, this is Shichen, he is…”
Looking troubled, Yu Shen wasn’t sure how to introduce him.
Chu Qianli was their real daughter but they had no shared memories of the past. He Shichen was not their real son but the love they had for him was real. Neither one of the children did anything wrong. The culprits were the adults. Both of them were innocent victims and they loved them both.
But would Chu Qianli have ill feelings toward He Shichen?
Her life had been swapped and that had caused her to suffer for no reasons.
Looking at He Shichen, Chu Qianli thought to herself: so this was the male lead in the novel.
The very next second, she resolved the situation by saying gently, “Hi Big Brother.”
