Chapter 073 - He needs their parents to come and take care of their own child. (1)

After Zhang Qiang had arranged time for her interview, she sent a message to the divinator letting her know that she would report back to her afterward.

Zhang Qiang wanted to provide Chu Qianli with feedback but didn’t know that Chu Qianli really didn’t need them at her level. Chu Qianli had already handled so many cases that she more or less already had an idea. Not to mention that Zhang Qiang’s case was relatively simple and that the variability was low.

Chu Qianli, however, still thanked her nicely. Zhang Qiang would be posted it to their business account anyways. Perhaps a real case scenario could further Qiu Qingkong’s study.

Time flew when one was at school.

After school, Chu Qianli and Tan Muxing had, once again, walked outside the school together. Chu Qianli noticed that He Shichen was again missing after she had gotten into the car. He Shichen had been very busy as of late and would take the car home late at night. It seemed he had been attending some training sessions for his upcoming competition.

Over the dinner table, Yu Shen had Aunty Li save some for He Shichen before she sat down and joined Chu Qianli and He Zhenghe at dinner. Even though He Shichen never talked much at the dinner table but it was still odd that his spot was empty.

Chu Qianli had always been stared at by the money-printing machine during meals and, now that nobody was there to pick on her, she felt that even the rice didn’t taste as good as it normally did. It was definitely more enjoyable to eat after she had provoked someone.

Chu Qianli was very docile in front of her parents and was nowhere as arrogant as she was in front of He Shichen.

He Zhenghe smiled and said, “Even Qianli quiets down when Shichen is not home.”

Yu Shen, “You two are always butting heads and I was worried that the two of you don’t get along. Yet you are so quiet when you two are apart from each other.”

“We get along fine,” said Chu Qianli. “Big Brother would probably get annoyed if he hears this but I know him better than he knows himself.”

He Shichen didn’t even know himself that well but Chu Qianli saw a lot more through his star chart. She was even able to get money from him last time; it made her more confident that what she knew about him was, in fact, true.

Now that He Shichen wasn’t there with them, the three, for a change, talked about Chu Qianli’s past. Yu Shen was curious, “What did you usually do after school?”

“More or less what I do now. I would hang out around the school for a little while before I head home. Sometimes I will go with Grandpa to help others resolve their issues……” Chu Qianli thought about it some and said, “I mainly stayed home on my time off. Both Grandpa and I are lazy so we will compete with our divinations daily and the person who lost would take care of the household chores that day.”

“Help others resolve issues?”

“Yeah, from minor incidents like helping someone found their lost chicken or major events like picking a good date for having a wedding or helping to check out fengshui when houses are being built.”

Looking lonely, Yu Shen said bitterly, “That’s amazing. I know nothing about those.”

Yu Shen couldn’t not begin to imagine her daughter’s past and felt that she had missed out on too much.

Noticing her mother’s look, Chu Qianli said softly, “Mom, I know what you are thinking but it’s not like that.”

Yu Shen was taken aback a little.

Chu Qianli carried on to say, “Learning these from Grandpa is like learning how to play mahjong. You don’t teach people how to get the best tiles but how to make the best out of the tiles in your possession.

“You can’t miss what had never been in your possession. One should not focus on how they never got the good tiles; it is much more important to focus on what they have in hand.”

There are always a lot of wonderful “ifs”. If only that didn’t happen; if everything was reasonable. But life is full of missed opportunities and disappointments. Some people are born rich and others are born unhealthy. Life is unpredictable.

Chu Qianli never felt that growing up in a village was an awful thing. Surely, from a materialistic perspective, it wasn’t as good as it could have been had she been with the He’s. But many who had wanted to be rich never had the opportunity either.

Chu Qianli could not convey that idea to He Shichen, Yu Shen, or the others. Unfortunately, her grandfather, the one who understood her, had already passed away.

He Zhenghe lighted up the mood and made a toast with his glass. “Qianli is a little philosopher as well! Let’s toast to that!”

Chu Qianli toasted with her father happily.

Yu Shen’s look mellowed out. She raised her glass, smiled, and said, “You are right. We still have a lot of time together in the future.”

Chu Qianli was taken aback a little when she heard that but finally toasted with her.

“…… Yeah.”
