Father and Mother Su came running in, drawn by the noise of the fight.

“Comrade Tong, what are Xiao Jiu’s folks fighting about? Whatever had happened?”

Tong Xuelu said, “Well… It’s best if I let Comrade Su tell it. It’s getting late and I need to return to work. I’ll take off with Mianmian.”

Xiao Jiu, who heard his parents fighting, his eyes reddened from fear.

Tong Xuelu did not learn about what happened to the Su’s from her grandfather; nor was she informed by Fang Wanyuan. She found out because she was asked to assist in the investigation.

That afternoon, the restaurant was slammed as usual.

Chef Lui had taken the day off because he had diarrhea and Tong Xuelu was cooking in the kitchen alongside Chef Meng.

Many saw that Tong Xuelu was cooking today and took the opportunity to order a few extra dishes. Who could say when the opportunity would present itself again next?

Suddenly, a group of people arrived from the outside.

As the restaurant had been expanded, the patrons no longer needed to wait outside. They could now wait indoors. Nevertheless, this group of people immediately asked about Tong Xuelu’s whereabout as soon as they had stepped inside.

Their forcefulness startled Meng Qingqing. She stammered, “Manager Tong is…… cooking in the kitchen.”

And the group turned and headed straight to the kitchen.

Some of the other patrons were disgruntled. “Who are these people and how could they just walk straight into the kitchen?”

His friend quickly tugged at him. “Had your mother never told you to not say anything if you have nothing good to say? Can you not tell that those are not ordinary people?”

The group were all wearing Chinese long tunic and looked very solemn. They were obviously important people.

Some other patrons were startled and they quickly finished their food and skedaddled out of there. They did not want to become collateral damage.

Tong Xuelu was making bamboo and pork stir fry when the group walked into the kitchen.

Bamboo and pork stir fry was a common dish and did not require a lot of skill. But bamboos were inexpensive and crunchy, so many ordered this dish.

With the seasoning into the work, the fragrance permeated the kitchen and that was what the group of people smelled when they walked inside. All of them gulped reflexively.

“Which one of you is Comrade Tong?” asked the leader of the group.

Tong Xuelu looked up, scanned over the guy, and said nonchalantly, “That would be me. And you are?”

The leader man said, “We are with the Political Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security. We need to come with us to help us on an investigation.”
