Book Recommendation: Happy Fried Rice Restaurant

Name: Happy Fried Rice Restaurant (幸福炒饭店[古穿今])

Author: 苏香兰色

Tag: Reverse transmigration, cooking, fluffy

Synopsis: Girl transmigrated from old times to modern times. The original owner was 18 when she died. She was orphaned and her grandmother who raised her just died and she, too, died a few days after from being heart broken. MC was a girl who loved to cook but, being from the past, was strongly discouraged from learning to cook formally. To a point that her father broke her wrist one time when she tried to learn how to cook behind his back.

When original owner’s parents were alive, they ran a restaurant in an alley way but had since be defunct. MC, after transmigration and with some of original owner’s memory, reopened the shop and put it on a delivery platform selling fried rice. Naturally everybody loved her fried rice, blah blah blah.

Points of note: When the original owner’s grandmother was sick, her family (aunts & uncles) refused to help, but a nice old man in the neighborhood loaned her money with no expectation that original owner would pay him back. After transmigration, MC’s first goal was to pay him back.

But beyond that, the book was fluffy and heart warming as MC always made good food for this Grandpa Hu and treated him as though he was her own grandfather. She later on met his grandson (grandson of Grandpa Hu’s brother) and, of course, he was the ML.

The novel focused more on the food / restaurant rather than romance or faceslapping so the pace is not fast by any stretch of imagination. There was a few anecdotal stories of say how a delivery guy saw a young girl about to jump off a bridge but she lured her off with the fried rice from MC’s restaurant, or how MC’s patrons ordered fried rice to be delivered to an orphanage etc.

There was a few interesting story arcs about other individuals discovering her restaurant and her food that was quite interesting in and of themselves.

This novel has just been completed and author is adding extra chapters as we speak.

Do give it a try if the premise interest you.
