His deep and low voice was melodious at night. It made one’s ears tingle. “Want sleep with Zhizhi.”

She could see that Lu Jue’s eyes were pure. It didn’t look like he had any ideas other than just wanting to sleep next to her.

“Go. I need to turn in.” The way that Lu Jue was looking at her, there was no doubt in Ning Zhi’s mind that she would give in to his request the very next second.

Lu Jue lowered his head and said slowly, “Goodnight, Zhizhi.”

He turned around docilely to leave. The very next second, his clothes was tugged.

Lu Jue looked and turned back around to look at Ning Zhi blankly.

“Lower your head.”

His pillow in his arms, Lu Jue lowered his head docilely.

Ning Zhi took a step forward and gently planted her soft lips on his cheek.

Just a brief touch and then she retreated.

“Zhizhi.” Lu Jue’s eyes lit up and sparkled. Did Zhizhi just kiss him?

Ning Zhi’s face was a little red. She only acted impulsively at the heat of the moment.

The hair over Lu Jue’s forehead was wet and his eyes and brows were smiling. “Zhizhi, one more kiss.”

Ning Zhi noticed that the tips of his ears were so red that they looked like they could bleed. Her shyness disappeared instantly. Lu Jue was more shy than she was.

She rubbed Lu Jue’s red ear tips. “Don’t be so greedy.”

“Zhizhi.” Ning Zhi’s ears were hot. Hotter than his body that was still running a fever.

Ning Zhi took her hands back. She saw the desire in Lu Jue’s eyes and, being mean, she said, “Goodnight.” Having said that, she retreated back into her room and closed her room door in front of Lu Jue.

Leaning against the back of the door, Ning Zhi pressed her hand over her heart. It was pounding too fast.

Outside the door, Lu Jue reached out and touched his cheek. A light dimple appeared. Did Zhizhi just kiss him.

Lu Jue’s fever subsided the next day and his handsome face no longer looked pale like it did before.

I will have someone take you back after you have a chance to rest up after lunch,” said Ning Zhi.

Lu Jue said nothing.

He walked straight inside the bathroom after he had returned to the guest bedroom.

When he walked back out, his body was freezing and water was rolling down the side of his chiseled face. Lu Jue cranked the air-conditioning in the room to its highest setting and stood in front of it, letting the cold air blow directly on him.

Cold air blew on his wet clothes, his face, and his hands. Bit by bit, his body turned cold and stiff.

Being cold did not bother Lu Jue. His face turned pale slowly and even his thin lips turned white and dry.

When Ning Zhi came looking for him again, Lu Jue looked pale but his eyes were sparkling. “Zhizhi, I am running a fever again.”

“Running a fever? Didn’t your fever subside?” Ning Zhi quickly reached out and touched Lu Jue’s forehead. It was hot. “How did this happen?”

Ning Zhi quickly called the family doctor.

“Zhizhi, I sick. No leave.” All Lu Jue could think about was staying behind with Zhizhi.

He had succeeded in being able to stay at the Ning’s in the few days that followed. His condition went back and forth. Nevertheless, Ning Zhi quickly found out what was going on.

She had walked inside his room reminding him to take his medicines. Low and behold, she happened to run into Lu Jue standing in front of the air conditioner in wet clothes.

“Zhizhi.” Lu Jue panicked when he was caught red handed.

Ning Zhi looked at him quietly. Looking at his wet clothes and the setting on the air conditioner, what else was there to figure out?

That must be the reason why his fever would get worse again abruptly every time he was about to recover.
